Classic Cocktails: The Aperol Spritz

Take a stroll through any Italian town in the middle of the day, especially in the summer, and you’d be hard-pressed not to find locals and tourists alike (me included) chatting over glasses of Aperol Spritzes. Its historical beginnings can be traced back to the early 20th century in Padua, Italy. Having a fairly low alcohol content and lovely bittersweet taste has given it the perfect reputation as a go-to mid-day sipper.

INGREDIENTS

3 ounces prosecco

2 ounces Aperol

1 ounce club soda

Garnish: orange slice

DIRECTIONS

Add the prosecco, Aperol and club soda to an ice-filled wine glass. Stir, then garnish with an orange slice.

MY TIP

Any type of sparkling wine can be added to Aperol and club soda, but for a purely authentic Aperol Spritz, always choose a Prosecco. It’s the Italian way.
